NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse charges in April.

According to a release, on Aug. 8, 2024, while the Naval Criminal Investigative Service was conducting an undercover operation with Norfolk Police, 41-year-old Jason James Bush responded to an advertisement on a prostitution website which was posted by an undercover agent.

The pair then exchanged numbers, the release states. Following this, the undercover agent told Bush on multiple occasions that they were a 14-year-old girl. Despite this, Bush continued to engage in sexually explicit conversations and even scheduled to meet up in Ocean View for oral sex.

Officials said that after agreeing to meet up, Bush asked the undercover agent for nude photographs to prove he wasn’t speaking with a law enforcement officer. Although Bush never received said photos, he continued with the plan and instead asked the agent if a friend would be able to vouch for her identity. After receiving a call from a separate undercover agent to confirm the identity, they agreed to meet at a different location, the release states.

While on the way to the agreed location, Norfolk Police pulled over Bush, where he was then arrested.

On April 3, 2025, Bush entered an agreement to plead guilty to attempting to solicit prostitution from a minor under the age of 16 and attempting to commit indecent liberties with a minor under the age of 15. In exchange, all other additional related charges were dismissed.

“Mr. Bush thought he was enticing a 14-year-old girl and took steps to exploit her; fortunately, on the other end of the chat was a law enforcement officer who was committed to keeping our children safe,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi said. “There is no such thing as ‘consensual sex with a 14-year-old,’ and at sentencing we intend to ask for a sentence above the guidelines to account for the seriousness of Mr. Bush’s actions.”

Bush is schedule to be sentenced on Aug. 8, where he can face up to one year and eight months in prison.
