NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Members of the Newport News/Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Williamsburg chapters of Virginia Organizing protested Tuesday against the ICE presence and activity in the Hampton Roads area.

Protesters met at the old confederate statue on Main St. and marched from there to the Norfolk Federal building on Granby Street.

The protest was in response to President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” in which the money allocated towards deportation efforts could allow for ICE to hire 10,000 deportation officers. Va. Organizing says this could make the immigrant communities of Hampton Roads even more unsafe.
