NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man and woman have pleaded guilty to breaking into several self-storage units in Norfolk.

According to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Emily Isaacs, 28, and Kevin Salmon Jr., 38, each pleaded guilty to burglary with the intent to commit larceny, and conspiring to commit the felony.

Salmon was sentenced in May to serve one year in jail, and Isaacs is scheduled for sentencing later this month.

The crimes associated with this case took place in October.

On Oct. 26, the pair used a bolt cutter to break the doors of several storage units at a business on 35th St., where they proceeded to steal several items, according to a news release. One of those items included a World War II-era service rifle worth thousands of dollars.

Surveillance video from the scene showed Salmon and Isaacs committing the crimes and captured the vehicle they were driving.

A detective reviewed the video, then distributed a description of the suspects and their car.

On Oct. 28, a patrol officer spotted the car outside a hotel and determined it had been stolen.

Police towed the vehicle from the scene. Detectives recovered several stolen items, identifying information, a pair of bolt cutters, and multiple cut locks from the car.

Salmon’s plea agreement requires that he pay restitution to the victim whose rifle was stolen, among other parameters. His one-year jail sentence is above the high end of Virginia sentencing guidelines, which recommended a sentence of between one day and six months in jail, according to the CA’s Office.

Isaacs pleaded guilty in June. She also agreed to face an active jail sentence of up to 12 months, dependent on the judge’s acceptance when the hearing is held.

“Mr. Salmon and Ms. Isaacs stole more than just property from their victims; they stole heirlooms whose worth was far more than just money,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “Mr. Salmon and Ms. Isaacs should have known better, and they will each serve a sanction appropriate to their actions.”
