Yesterday the remnants of Chantal moved to our north and fell apart. Today heat is going to be the big story. We have Heat Advisories out for almost the entire area except for the Outer Banks.

Heat Advisories

Our high temps will aim for the mid-upper 90s.

However, our heat index will rise above 105 for most of the region during the peak heating of the day.

Forecast Heat Index

We are back to what I call the “heat pump pattern”. That is when high pressure sits offshore for days or weeks, and the local southwest wind blows. Hot (usually humid) air pumps in from the southwest, and props the temperatures up in the eastern U.S.

Regional Weather Map

We’ll be mostly sunny this morning, and then partly cloudy during the afternoon. There will be a few showers and storms forming this afternoon as well.

Future Trak This Afternoon

The storms may increase in coverage as we go into the evening.

Future Trak This Evening

Some of these storms could be strong to severe.

Severe Risk

Heavy downpours will be the main threat. Rain amounts will vary greatly. We could see hardly anything up to an inch and a half of rainfall.

There may also be some strong gusty winds and small hail. These storms should wrap up by the late evening

Tomorrow we’ll have similar weather. However, there should be more clouds for a while. There will also be some scattered showers and storms forming in the afternoon.

Future Trak Wednesday Afternoon

These features may keep the temps down slightly, but overall it will still be very hot and humid. Temps will stay in the low-mid 90s. The heat index will be over 100.

Temps VS Heat Index

We’ll stay in the 90s all week, but hopefully it will be more in the lower 90s for the second half of the week. It will definitely stay humid until at least Saturday. Dew points will hover around 75 for a while.

Muggy Meter

Meanwhile the bad news keeps coming in from Texas. The death toll from the recent flooding is now over 100 and still rising. Recovery efforts continue. Texas Flooding.
