CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The use of license plate recognition technology led to the capturing of a 40-year-old man in Chesapeake, police said. He was arrested in connection with a shooting last Saturday on South Military Highway that left one severely injured.
Officers say it happened around 4:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of South Military Highway on June 28.
Witnesses described the suspect fleeing in a gray Nissan but were unable to provide a license plate number.
With the assistance of investigative technology and the Norfolk Police Department, the vehicle was shortly located.
Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s car and residence and subsequently uncovered a firearm and ammunition matching evidence from the crime scene.

The suspect, identified as Ronaldo Bartholomew, was located and taken into custody.
“This case is a powerful example of how investigative techniques, and working with our neighboring police departments, help us quickly identify suspects and get dangerous individuals off the streets. Without the dedication of all of the officers involved, this crime may not have been solved — and certainly not within hours,” The Chesapeake Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.
