VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A local human trafficking shelter for minors has been recently awarded $200,000 to be used for a multi-purpose court.

According to a release, The Hallow by Samaritan House, which is the first shelter for victims of human trafficking in Eastern Virginia for those ages 11-17, was given the award after Virginia State Delegate Michael Feggans proposed adding the funds to the State’s budget.

The award was later approved by by Governor Glenn Youngkin in early May.

The release states the multi-purpose court will include space for basketball, pickleball and volleyball. Construction is expected to be completed within eight-weeks.

Feggans, who helped to pass the award, along with several members of Samaritan House, are expected to gather at The Hallow by Samaritan House from 1:30-2 p.m. to present the $200,000 check.
