PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – WAVY TV 10 participated in our parent company Nexstar Media Group’s Annual Founder’s Day of Caring on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Nexstar’s Founder’s Day of Caring occurs each year in June. It allows employees the opportunity to participate in volunteer work during the workday at non-profit and public service organizations in the local communities served by Nexstar’s more than 200 television stations.
The choice of which organizations to support is made at the local level and covers a wide range of charities and social service agencies.
“We are a local service business and the best thing we can do to celebrate our success is to give back to the communities that made us successful. That’s the whole intent for Founder’s Day and that’s what we’re all about,” said Perry A. Sook, Nexstar’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO.
Nexstar celebrated its first “Founder’s Day of Caring” in 2016 in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary. This year, Nexstar is celebrating 29 years.
This year, WAVY partnered with UMFS, a local non-profit organization. WAVY employees will be assisting foster families in Virginia Beach and Hampton with home improvements and some fun additions for their children.
Our employees will be posting to social media throughout the day. Follow these hashtags to see the progress of the work being done at the two local homes.
