(WAVY) – Former Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Jeff Jones is hosting an all-star gala in September to try and raise money for cancer patients.

In conjunction with the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Coaches vs. Cancer gala hopes to raise at least $200,000.

Jones has had a publicized battle with prostate cancer over the last decade, and he’s using his influence and connections to bring in some of college basketball’s biggest names — guys like former UNC and Kansas coach Roy Williams, former Maryland coach Gary Williams, former Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, former Cincinnati and West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, former St. Joe’s coach Phil Martelli and more.

“One of the things that makes it so cool to me is this event is here in our own backyard and our community,” Jones said. “All these great hall of fame coaches are coming here to us. The more people that take part, the more money we donate to the American Cancer Society to help cancer patients.”

The Coaches vs. Cancer gala is Sept. 12 and 13 at Chartway Arena.
