YORK, Va. (WAVY) — Throughout the month of May, WAVY 10 is highlighting some of the excellent educators throughout our region.

The York County School Division (YCSD) nominated three teachers this year, including Michelle Rower, Sarah Wilson and Melissa Madrigal. 10 On Your Side’s Nick Broadway met up with Madrigal at Grafton High School where she teaches math.

More information on the other nominated educators can be found below:

Michelle Rower

Michelle Rower is a kindergarten teacher at Mt. Vernon Elementary School. YCSD told WAVY 10 that Rower’s teaching approach helps keep her students engaged in various subjects through hands-on activities.

Rower is also said to help with colleagues outside of Mt. Vernon, collaborating with teachers from across the division.

“She fosters a positive, supportive, and collaborative environment, nurturing her students’ curiosity and confidence,” YCSD said about Rower.

Sarah Wilson

Sarah Wilson is a science teacher at Tabb Middle School. YCSD told WAVY 10 that Wilson works to help connect her students with their communities while working as the school’s student connect coach.

Wilson is said to focus on chronic absenteeism.

“This position has become a passion of hers and a way she builds connections with her students while also instilling a love of science,” YCSD officials said about Wilson.
