NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk-based USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) lost a F/A-18E Super Hornet and a tow tractor Monday, as the aircraft carrier was operated in the Red Sea.

Sailors were towing the Super Hornet when the move crew lost control of it. The aircraft fell overboard and is now lost at sea. The move crew got out of the way in time. One Sailor received a minor injury.

The Super Hornet lost belonged to the Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136, which consisted of the USS Harry S. Truman, the nine squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 1, three guided-missile destroyers of Destroyer Squadron 28, and the Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG 64).

The incident is currently under investigation.

On Feb. 12, USS Harry S. Truman was involved in a collision in the Mediterranean Sea, which resulted in damage to the carrier. It went to Greece for repairs.
