NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach native and former Princess Anne High School star Aziaha James fulfilled a lifelong dream Monday night when she was selected by the Dallas Wings with the final pick of the first round, going 12th overall.
James was a standout player under coach Darnell Dozier at Princess Anne, where she won multiple state championships. After her prep career, she went to N.C. State. After two years of less consistent playing time her first two seasons, James burst onto the scene in her junior year of 2023-2024. She was a pivotal piece to a Wolfpack team that made the Final Four.
In her senior season, she averaged 19 points and five rebounds per game while being named first-team All-ACC.
James becomes the second girls basketball player from Princess Anne to be drafted into the WNBA, joining Elizabeth Williams.
