NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News shipbuilder was found unconscious in his work area on Friday, according to a statement.

Emergency crews immediately responded and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, however the life-saving measures were unsuccessful.

“We extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the employee’s family and friends and our shipbuilders during this difficult time,” said a Newport News Shipbuilding spokesperson.

While additional information will not be released, there are no indications this was an industrial accident.
