Julia Avery joined the WAVY morning team in April 2025.
She was born and raised outside of St. Louis in St. Charles, Missouri and will always be a dedicated St. Louis Cardinals fan.
After high school, she studied Broadcast Journalism at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) where she was a cheerleader and a member of Delta Gamma.
Julia interned with Reuters in Brussels, Belgium before becoming an anchor and reporter in Redding, California.
After four years covering wildfires on the west coast, she returned to her home state to be a reporter in St. Louis at KMOV and then in Kansas City at KCTV.
Being the granddaughter of a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel, Virginia has been calling her name. Her grandparents are laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery and her father was an alumni of T.C. Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School). His graduating class was the inspiration for the movie Remember the Titans.
In her free time, you’ll probably find Julia outdoors camping, rafting, or rock climbing. She can’t wait to explore the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Outer Banks.
