SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — As summer quickly approaches, the city of Suffolk is offering their residents free mosquito dunks.
The dunks are a part of the city’s preparation for the insect’s ‘pesty’ return.
According to a release, individuals who are 18 years or older, provide proof of Suffolk residency and present a valid photo I.D. will be able to receive a free dunk. Dunks can be picked up at Suffolk fire stations, city hall, recreation centers, libraries, visitor centers and the Mosquito control office.

The city also recommends residents protect themselves by remaining indoors during peak hours (one hour before dusk and one hour before dawn), wearing protective clothing and applying insect replant, a release states. Dog, cat and horse owners can also protect their furry friends by vaccinating them.
Residents can also eliminate mosquito breeding sites by emptying and cleaning out places that collect water (ex: buckets, gutters, pots, and swimming pools).
