Yesterday we got the rain that we had called for. It was great! It was like a car wash for a little while, but it was worth it. Rain picked up over the region during the afternoon along the first cold front.

Rain Yesterday Afternoon

Then the heavy rain shifted down to North Carolina in the evening.

Rainfall Yesterday Evening

This was a great soaking rain that the area needed. The rain continued into the overnight, and there were even a few spotty showers this morning. As expected, we picked up about 1.5 to 2″ of rainfall.

24 Hour Rainfall

Norfolk picked up about 1.60″. Now, finally the pollen has gotten washed out, and the grass, trees, and plants all got some much-needed rainfall.

The rain was along 2 cold fronts. Both of which are now dropping to our south.

Regional Weather Map

Today the fronts will sink a little more to the south and high pressure will build into the region. We’ll have clearing skies, but the breeze will also pick up out of the northwest. It will gust up to 25mph at times.

Wind Gusts Forecast

High temps will only make it to the mid 50s.

Forecast Temps Today

The air is also drying out quite a bit. Dew points are dropping from the 40s to the 30s today.

Muggy Meter

By tonight we’ll have dry air, clear skies, and lighter winds. This is going to allow temps to drop down to the freezing mark. There are freeze warnings up for most inland and northern areas.

Freeze Warnings

Low temps will drop down to the 30s with a few upper 20s possible far inland.

Tonight’s Forecast

Be sure to bring in the potted plants. Cover up any newly-planted flowers with some mulch or a tarp.

Tomorrow we’ll start off cold. We’ll end up cool. We’ll have lots of sunshine with a (light) northeast/east breeze. High temps will rise back up to the mid 50s.

Tomorrow’s Forecast

If the wind turns out of the southeast, then we may make it into the upper 50s for some. We’ll have nice weather on Thursday. We’ll be partly cloudy with highs in the 60s. There may be some isolated showers by the evening. Some much warmer and more humid air will then arrive on Friday. At this point the models are showing a lot of rain returning for that day.

GFS Model Friday

Luckily, they are showing a drier weekend. I’ll talk more about that in tomorrow’s weather blog.
