Officials with Perquimans County Emergency Operations Center said 13 mobile homes at the Longview Estates Mobile Home Park have been damaged due to severe storms — just three were occupied at the time of the tornado, according to the National Weather Service. Officials said multiple people have been taken to the hospital with injuries, with the National Weather Service saying eight people were injured.

Crews were dispatched to the scene just before 3:10 a.m. and are still on scene investigating. Public Safety and Utility Crews are still on scene.

Drone 10 got an aerial view of the damage.

Three survivors were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. One family is being assisted by The American Red Cross.

10 On Your Side’s Deja Parker was sent to the scene and spoke with Fire Chief Michael Cartwright from the Inter-County Volunteer Fire Department.

“We had the storm come through a little after 3 o’clock in the morning and it damaged several trailers,” Cartwright said. “Right now, I counted 13 trailers that have been damaged, three occupied were totally destroyed. We’ve had six totally destroyed, but they were unoccupied. The rest of them had the other remaining trailers had some type of damage to it such as a roof damage or siding damage.”

Cartwright said this kind of weather doesn’t come often and is pretty devastating for the small community.

“When we first just got here obviously our concern was life safety, so we began searching the trailers for any type of trapped victims or residents,” Cartwright said. “We did have one — a small child — that was still in the trailer we had to get out she was not injured.”

A local resident said the whole thing was terrible.

“It was just a big rat loud roar for about 45 seconds and then after that, it calmed right down and come out to this,” Tommy palmer said.

The Salvation Army is preparing lunch for the residents of the Longview Estates community and will be ready to feed around 1 p.m.
