VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Protesters rallied outside of Rep. Jen Kiggans’ office in Virginia Beach Sunday in response to Elon Musk’s actions under the Trump administration.

The rally, organized by former local teacher Mary Stoakley, expressed dissatisfaction with Musk’s recent actions within the U.S. government and how he is not an elected government official. Protesters urged Kiggans to advocate for Virginia residents and speak against the Trump administration.

According to moveon.org, the website Stoakley used to organize the rally, “Congress works for us, not Elon Musk! … When members of Congress are back at home Feb 15-23, we have a chance to express how much we want them to get Musk’s hands out of our wallets and to stop his power grab.”

Musk has been the leading force in President Donald Trump’s cost-cutting initiative through the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Thousands of federal employees have already been forced out of the workforce, either by deferred resignation or by being fired, and more are at risk of losing their jobs following a Monday deadline enforced by Musk requiring employees to email their weekly accomplishments.

However, according to an AP report, the Office of Personnel Management has informed agency leaders that complying with Musk’s email was voluntary, according to a person with knowledge of the conversation who requested anonymity to discuss internal matters.
