PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Rivers Casino in Portsmouth closed at 6 p.m. Wednesday due to hazardous weather conditions, a spokesperson for the casino said.

The intent is for the casino to reopen at noon Thursday, but inclement weather and road conditions will determine its operations schedule.

It said the safety of its employees and patrons are its top priority.

A spokesperson for the casino said “this is the first time the casino has closed due to inclement weather.” The casino opened its doors just over two years ago to much fanfare.
