NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Sean Durugordon scored 20 points as Old Dominion beat Texas State 75-64 Wednesday night.

Durugordon also had 13 rebounds, nine of which were offensive boards for the Monarchs (11-13, 7-5 Sun Belt Conference).

Robert Davis Jr. went 6-for-17 from the field (4-for-14 from 3-point range) to add 18 points.

Jaden Johnson shot 3-for-10 from the field, including 1-for-3 from 3-point range, and went 7-for-8 from the line to finish with 14 points.

The Monarchs were shorthanded in the game, with several players out with injuries. Four of ODU’s starters logged more than 35 minutes.

Tylan Pope led the way for the Bobcats (12-12, 5-7) with 23 points, and Josh O’Garro added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Kaden Gumbs finished with 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.

The Monarchs led by three points at the half and stretched the lead to as much as 11 in the second half.

The Bobcats cut the lead to two points, but ODU went back up front by eight after three offensive possessions resulted in dunks, none bigger than R.J. Blakney’s steal and slam with 4:42 remaining. Monarchs head coach Mike Jones said it was the play of the game.

The Monarchs play at Eastern Michigan Saturday as part of the Sun Belt/MAC challenge series.
