NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — If you take Amtrak out of Norfolk, you can no longer park directly in front of the station.
On Monday, Harbor Park Lots B & D were permanently closed to accommodate the construction of the long-planned resort casino, according to the city of Norfolk.
Until the 1,300-spot casino garage is constructed on the space of the more than 800-spot surface lot, Amtrak parking has been moved across Park Avenue to Lot E.
If Lot E becomes full, additional overflow parking will be available in Lot C, near Harbor Park’s first base line.

While you can walk, Boyd Gaming and the Pamunkey Indian Tribe, the developers behind the casino, are mandated to provide shuttle service continuously for one hour prior to all departures and arrivals of Amtrak trains.
Monday, two shuttle buses from Agape Tours could be seen coming and going from the traffic circle outside the Amtrak station.
They were not only picking up passengers from the parking lots, but also shuttling them to and from the relocated stop for Amtrak Thruway Bus Service to the Virginia Beach Convention Center and the Newport News Transportation Center.
For those who are being dropped off or are taking a rideshare to the station, drivers will still be able to pull up to the front of the station, but must remain in their cars at all times, according to the city.
If you arrive early, you will be asked to wait in Lot C until the train arrives.
An Amtrak spokesperson said travelers should plan to arrive early to accommodate the changes.
When it comes to parking for Norfolk Tide’s baseball games, city spokesperson Kelly Straub said details are still being worked out.
“(Tides) have VIP parking and I believe season ticket holders – in the nearby lots,” Straub said. “Garages are options with Tide Light Rail ferry service as well.”
