NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man is being accused of punching and choking another man to the point of passing out, police say.

Newport News police said the alleged incident happened the evening of Dec. 13 in the 6000 block of Jefferson Avenue. Officers were called to the scene for a fight just before 7 p.m.

Police said a 55-year-old man told officers he was assaulted by 50-year-old Michael West.

The two reportedly got into an argument that turned physical.

Police said witnesses reported West was the primary aggressor. Both men sustained lacerations, bites and bruises in the altercation, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

West has been charged with malicious wounding and strangulation.
