COURTLAND, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested on Sunday in connection with a vehicle theft in Southampton County.
According to officials, on Aug. 17, a Toyota Tacoma was reported stolen from the 16000 block of Old Plank Road. After an investigation, deputies believed the truck to be in either the Greensville County or Sussex County area.
The following day, on Aug. 18, the truck was located at the Wakefield Inn Motel in Sussex County, and an investigation revealed the suspect, later identified ass 38-year-old Brent Freeman, was still in the motel room.
After an arrest and search warrant were secured, Freeman surrendered and was then taken into custody to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office jail.
Freeman was charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and charges from Sussex County are pending. He is currently being held under a $2,000 secured bond.
Freeman is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
