MCAS CHERRY POINT, N.C (WNCT) — The first day of the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show kicked off Saturday. Community members from all around North Carolina got to check out all the performances during a busy day.

In all, 18 performances — comprised of civilian and military aerobatic demos — took to the skies and dazzled all who were in attendance. Among those was Hubie Tolson, an Air Show legend, who is saying his final farewell to the event this weekend.

“Stayed above the ground and flew safely and one more to go,” he said. “Super exciting, the crowd is bigger than I’ve ever seen here it was awesome. Traffic was quite thick, and so leave early for tomorrow if you’re coming to the show.”

Heavy traffic also impacted Saturday’s show. Many sat in traffic for between 1-3 hours just to get into the show. Those planning to attend Sunday’s show are asked to arrive early.
