Police arrived around 8:50 a.m. When officers tried entering the apartment, an aggressive Pitbull attacked two SWAT officers before running back inside and attacking a female resident. The officers first fired non-lethal rounds at the dog, but when that didn’t work, they shot the canine.

The female and an officer were transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Parks was taken into custody around 10:05 a.m.

Parks was arrested on six active felony warrants including: one count of possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs, one count of possession of a firearm by convicted felon and four counts of manufacture, sale, possession of controlled substance.

Residents there said they have never seen activity like this in the area, but hope their community is safer.

“I just pray to God nobody get hurt, nobody get shot, that the people come on out then everybody safe,” Mack Davis said. “‘Cause we got kids around here too, you know. And bullets ain’t got no names. When people get to shooting each other, those bullets go anywhere.”

WAVY also saw other people taken in handcuffs for apparent interrogation, and saw one person released by police.

Investigators also took away bags of evidence and two long rifles from the apartment.

The SWAT truck was seen leaving the area at around 10:30 a.m. and blocked off areas of the complex have since reopened.
