NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police and firefighters are investigating after a car crashed into a building in Newport News Wednesday afternoon.

It happened just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at a building at 79th Street and Marshall Avenue. Officials said two vehicles were involved with one crashing into the building.

The preliminary investigation showed that a 2014 Ford F150 was traveling eastbound on 79th street, and a second vehicle, a 2017 Subaru was traveling northbound on Marshall Avenue. The cars collided and the driver of the 2017 Subaru hit a nearby business and caused significant damage. The driver of the Subaru was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what appeared to be non life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Crews has to shore up the hole in the building to keep it from collapsing.
