CAPE CHARLES, Va. (WAVY) — The crew of a U.S. Navy MH-53 helicopter made an emergency landing Wednesday at Cherrystone campground on the Eastern Shore.
According to Navy Public Affairs Officer Dave Hecht, the heavy lift helicopter’s chip light, a mechanism similar to a car’s dashboard warning light that alerts the crew something may be wrong with the helicopter, turned on and the crew landed as a precaution.
The crew of approximately 4 sailors was not hurt, and they’re currently working to see what the issue is.
