8 Chihuahuas rescued from hoarding situation need foster homes w/featured image

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – In a Facebook post June 2, the Norfolk SPCA mentioned they have eight Chihuahuas in need of foster homes after being rescued from a hoarding situation.

The adoption center mentioned these dogs have not had access to a soft bed before and do not know what it is like to feel safe. That’s why SPCA is looking for those willing to open their homes for these foster animals.

The adoption center mentioned that dogs from hoarding situations often come with unique needs:

They may be fearful or shut down

They’ve had little to no socialization

They may not be house-trained or used to leashes

Some could have untreated medical issues from years of neglect.

Those interested in being a foster home can reach out to Norfolk SPCA on Facebook, or email jstreeter@norfolkspca.org.

The adoption center mentioned that even those who have never fostered animals should still apply, as they are willing to guide those willing.

These dogs are not currently available for adoption. The SPCA said they will all have to go through extensive socialization and medical evaluation first and they’re not sure yet how long that will take.

The SPCA also noted that these dogs cannot be in homes around other dogs at this time.
